I believe it was Oscar Wilde who opined about life imitating art. I agree, and if you need an example, look no further than this cake. It was inspired by a painting called "Love Spells" from one of my favorite artists. If you've never browsed the art of Janet Hill, then prepare to be delighted (click). She has a wonderful way of setting a mysterious scene, conveying nostalgia, and doing so with an effervescent spirit. There are times when I glimpse something personal andfamiliar in her paintings, and I think that's probably true for many admirers of her work.
Under the painting's spell, I fell in love with the heart-topped dome cake at first sight. I could only guess what the inside of the cake might be like, but the strawberries depicted at the bottom edge gave me a clue.
